Student Council Offices/Duties

All officers will:

Conduct him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct

Exhibit good moral character

Attend meeting in or out of school

Set up for events when needed

Participate in community service

Turn in a written excuse in advance if you are not able to attend a meeting.  Explain why and give a teacher or adult signature where possible.

Help other officers with their duties when needed

Always be ready to help

Fulfill responsibilities on time with thorough and well organized work

Be broad-minded in considering problems that arise

Maintain GPA

Be capable of addressing a group

Demonstrate outstanding teamwork

Find someone to replace you if you cannot fulfill the duties of the office due to an excused school activity

Class Officers organize and run activities that involve their individual classes while also working for the entire school.

Duties of President

Shall attend all Student Council meetings

Leader who sets the tone

Exhibits an outstanding work ethic

Leads meetings

Organizes committees and possibly attends committee meetings

A member of each committee

Always demonstrates teamwork as a leader

Knows the basic rules of parliamentary procedures

Conduct him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct

Etc.

Duties of Vice-President (6th, 7th, 8th Grades)

Shall attend all Student Council meetings

Shall be ready at any time to resume all duties of the President

Shall run any meeting in case of the absence of the President

In the event that a Chairperson of a committee encounters problems, the Vice-President should be responsible for making suggestions, informing the President and Advisor of the problems, and participating in meetings called to solve the difficulty.

Shall make all necessary arrangements for meeting rooms, reservations, permission slips, etc.

Duties of the Secretary (6th, 7th, 8th Grades)

Shall attend all Student Council meetings

Shall perform all duties of the President, in the event that the President and the Vice-President are unavoidably absent

Shall make sure all necessary “Thank You” notes are written

Shall prepare a Student Council Directory with the phone numbers, addresses, and daily schedules of all members

Shall take minutes at all Student Council meetings

Shall inform all members of upcoming meetings in the form deemed necessary

Shall distribute copies of the official minutes after every meeting to the following:  Advisor, Principal, Assistant Principals, Officers, and people absent from the meeting

Shall keep all official records, documents, activity planning sheets, agendas, and meeting minutes in an organized notebook

Shall keep official attendance record at every meeting and activity and shall maintain an official record of unexcused absences

Conduct him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct

Etc.

Duties of the Treasurer

Shall attend all Student Council meetings

Shall provide the Student Council with a current report of income and expenses at each meeting

Shall prepare a ledger sheet to keep the finances organized

Shall fill out all budget request forms, all payment vouchers, trip request forms, bus request forms, and contract forms

Shall make recommendations as to whether the cost of a proposed project can be justified

Shall understand the policies the school has in regard to the use of student finances

Shall check with the Advisor for treasurer items

Shall meet with the School’s Financial Secretary as needed to update the records of all Student Council Accounts

Deposits money quickly to prevent its accidental loss

Conduct him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct

Etc.

Duties of the Historian

Shall write a narrative of activities and events

Shall maintain a scrapbook of documents and memorabilia

Shall coordinate activities with the school newspaper and yearbook teams

Shall publicize activities in the school
